"Begin Again In 2010"
This is our winning slogan and we are taking it seriously. We are at the dawn of a new century; ten years ago First Christian was born again out of the ashes of a church fight with 25 members and a desire to live. Ten years later it is time for us to reform and look to the new decade. The Vision of Worship, Evangelism, Empowerment and Discipleship was a great Vision for 25 people with no building and a desire to live. Now ten years later with 166 members and a building that is starting to get too small, this Vision is not big enough.
Worship, Evangelism, Empowerment and Discipleship is our mission, it is what we do. Now we need a bigger Vision of where we are going. To that end the Vision Team is embarking on a journey to reform our Vision. We are taking this year and asking the question, "Who is God leading us to be in the next ten years?" To that end, the Vision Team has given the staff the task of dreaming about where they see their individual ministries by 2015. Each staff person is dreaming, without consulting with each other, to see where our dreams line up. These points of connection will demonstrate where God is leading.
Along with this we are forming a Youth Ministry Vision Team. The task of this special group is to study, pray, discuss and dream about the Vision for our youth ministry. The group will start with a book study of Mark DeVries book "Sustainable Youth Ministry". Afterwhich we will create a Vision and make a presentation to the Vision Team. The next step will then be to create a job description, relating to the Vision, and to begin our search for a new youth leader. God willing (and the creek don't rise) we will call a new youth leader this summer.
This is going to be an exciting year. Journey to Discipleship is up and running, we have women's Bible Studies, Men's Bible Studies, we are looking at launching a new mid-week worship serive and we are praying about starting "Celebrate Recovery". And this is only what we know about right now, let alone everything that God is going to do in us and through us that we can't even imagine at this point. We are truly living into our slogan "Begin Again in 2010!"
